Explore the end of the world

FAR: Changing Tides is a post-apocalyptic adventure game that lets you captain a ship and set sail through dangerous waters, forgotten ruins, and dark depths. Developed by an indie game developer, Okomotive, the game is the unofficial standalone sequel of their first release FAR: Lone Sails.

Just like its predecessor, Changing Tides sticks to a melancholic, yet entrancing story that will keep you hooked to the end. The first release was a hit, so it comes as no surprise that this new one gets you through the same artistic and unforgettable journey, but in a more expansive world

Bigger world and more places to explore

The goal of the game is simple. Keep your ship moving forward by solving puzzles, eliminating obstacles, and finding new parts and pieces to improve your ship. That was the objective of the first installment and is still the same one of this new story. Both games also have similar characters: a boy named Toe and a vehicle. The biggest change, however, is where the story happens.

Lone Sails was set on land, where you take your vehicle horizontally through storms and ruins. Meanwhile, Changing Tides happen both above and below the sea, where you can now dive and explore the deepest depths and search for fuel, parts, and pieces that will help your journey. The game also forces you to innovate and come up with solutions to surpass obstacles and find forgotten relics.

The creators developed this adventure game in such a way that it brings you to the same depressing experience as Toe’s. With its hand-painted 2D design, gloomy storytelling, and haunting soundtrack, the entire game is a combination of numerous intricate artwork. However, the intricacy of the design and the other complex elements of the game will require at least a 64-bit system.

A meditative experience

Overall, FAR: Changing Tides is a highly immersive game with numerous well-thought-out elements that can give you a meditative gaming experience. Unfortunately, a downside to the game is its lack of support for 32-bit systems. Other than that, the game’s upgraded world makes up for the lack of challenge and story compared to its predecessor. The added sea exploration is a great upgrade.
